              For this assignment we had to take 3 visual images that our instructor provided for us to pick from. We then learned the Definitions of Denotative and Connotative. We also learned what it means to interpret things that we see in films and what their meanings are. People interpret things based on things like sexuality, family background, cultural background, and moral standpoint. These things can also be known as ideologs, helps the audience understand and build a picture of their own reality. As a class we went over what it means to encode and decode something. Encoding is when a filmmaker turns a thought or idea into a coded form also can be communication. Decoding is when an audience interpret a nonverbal or verbal communication or image. Semiotics is an important thing to study because everything we see and hear has a meaning in it and its up to us to decode it. Signs are the smallest unit of meaning.   Hair and makeup also plays an important role in Mise en scene, it shows the type of character and their role that is being show in the film. It sets the tone, style, time, place, and character personality of the character in the movie. If the character is shown with dark clothing and creates havoc with context cluse you can conclude that, that character is the villain in the movie like gru for an example. This assignment helped me understand the importance of the effects that Hair and makeup can have on the audience. It can really impact the audience into thinking one or two things.
